Genesis Recycling Ltd, based in Aldergrove,
B.C., is an ethical, dynamic and innovative provider of cradle-to-cradle
electronics' recycling. Annually, the company processes over 200,000
end-of-life computers and recovers thousands of tons of resources
while diverting toxic and hazardous materials from landfills.
Since commencing business in 1994, Genesis has
developed a domestic solution to Canada's expanding stockpile of
used electronics. An average CRT monitor contains 5lb of lead, so
the company uses a 'closed loop' process in which all leaded glass
from monitors is captured and diverted for safe handling. The company
has also developed e-waste management and criteria processes for
others to follow.
Genesis handles and processes all the material
it collects within British Columbia and does not export any of its
collected material overseas to contaminate developing countries.
Genesis' commitment to environmental excellence
and best practices in every aspect of its business is backed up
by ISO 14001( Environment) and ISO 9001:2000 ( Quality Management)
certification.
Genesis' Owner Al Surtees said, "The very
nature of our business means that we are environmentally responsible,
but having ISO 14001 and ISO 9001:2000 offers assurance to our customers
that we practice what we preach and operate within precise guidelines.
We feel that achieving these standards gives us a competitive advantage.
Initially, I thought it was going to take
many months of our time to devote to the certification process,
but with IMSM's help, it was so painless. Most importantly, they
listened to us. I would certainly recommend their services to our
associates."
