CASE STUDY: UK - Secure Electrical Applications Ltd

No cause for alarm

Secure Electrical Applications Ltd ( SEA) provide telecare and access control systems for a range of social housing landlords, as well as private and public sector care organisations. With a team of 8 service engineers, and service partnership agreements around the UK, they install and support a range of electronic security systems from their base in Swanley, Kent. These include door access for residential blocks, warden and nurse call systems, panic alarms, and personal tele-care alarms.

Operations Manager Sally Ashby was initially concerned when the company decided to go for the International Quality Standard, ISO 9001, as a previous experience with a large corporation had led her to expect long and complex procedures, and "a nightmare of paperwork".

However, when IMSM approached the company, she was impressed by their professional approach, fixed price and fixed timescale. "I was amazed at how painless it was "she said. "The manual detailed what we do, so it conformed to our systems, not the other way around- and best of all, the whole process only took a month. "

When SEA set out to achieve ISO18001, it was just as easy. "Having the recognised Standard for health & safety is a real time saver, continued Sally. "In our market sector, we have to complete a lot of tender documents, which often run to 20 pages or more. Now I just need to write in that we have achieved ISO18001, and this cuts down the time spent form-filling significantly. We used to have our own Health & Safety policy, but this is succinct and to the point, - it does what it says on the tin!"

Sally concluded, "All the IMSM people I have spoken to are very friendly, and consummate professionals, whether Assessors, sales people or head office. I have already recommended IMSM to our service partners."
