Diversified Industrial Products - Making the Upgrade was Easy

“... the upgrade procedure was quick and painless.”

Based in New York, Diversified Industrial Products has been meeting the needs of customers in the Aerospace, Defense and Commercial industrial sectors for 25 years. Having forged their name in metals, the company has since diversified and expanded their line. Today DIP is a leading supplier of a wide range of products and services including standard and hard-to-find metals, plastics, rubber, fabricated components, and value-added processing capabilities. Their dedication to service excellence and attention to quality control means they are able to provide cost effective solutions.

Having been ISO certified for two years, the company upgraded to the new standard in July 2003. As Sales & Quality Controller, Cathi Vail, told us: “We do a lot of Government work. Like many of our other customers, they are very stringent about who they purchase from. Not only do we have to be ISO certified, every supplier we do business with on their behalf has to be ISO certified as well. From a quality standpoint it’s great, but from a business standpoint it adds a little to the challenge of finding the most qualified suppliers.”

There was no question of allowing their ISO registration to lapse and Cathi explained that the upgrade procedure was quick and painless.“The new standard is more detailed and practices are a bit more intricate, but it hasn’t become more complicated. The key is to be on top of your quality system on an ongoing basis. If you do that, then making the transition to the upgraded specification shouldn’t be much of a problem. We found it relatively painless because we chose good people to work with. Our quality auditor, Paddy Minnis made the guidance easy to follow and our upgrade was completed in one day, which is pretty phenomenal.”
