When
CEO Larry Scott was asked why he decided to go for ISO certification,
his answer was that Scott Stainless Steel. Inc. who have been in
the stainless steel business for over 53 years, had initially decided
to do it for marketing purposes. They had wanted to show their existing
and potential customers that the company was committed to providing
a quality product, delivered on time and at a good price. Marketing
was the initial goal, but increased efficiency and the clear definitions
of staff responsibilities had resulted in increased company wide
productivity.
Chicago based Scott Stainless Steel, Inc. is a stainless steel
service centre. The company distributes stainless steel coil and
sheet to all manufacturers and distributors in the Midwest, across
the United States and around the world.
"We were very concerned" said Larry Scott "that ISO would mean
a ton of unnecessary paperwork and procedures, but IMSM dispelled
our fears by writing procedures and quality manuals that fit our
business. They didn't try to change our methods, just documented
them and along the way they suggested a few changes to increase
traceability, which we happily adapted. I have to say that I rate
them very highly."
