CASE STUDIES: Canning Conveyor Company

Conveying quality

Canning Conveyor Company is a major force in the design, manufacture and installation of bulk materials handling plant and equipment. Located in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, the company's engineering works incorporate design offices with AutoCAD facilities; a fabrication shop for manufacture, assembly and testing; and a comprehensive machine shop. In addition to offering an extensive range of new equipment, Canning Conveyors also supplies second hand and fully reconditioned components and systems, all of which are backed by the expert services of skilled erection teams for installation and commissioning, and after sales service for spares and maintenance.

Since its foundation in 1965, the family firm has been committed to the philosophy of supplying the best possible equipment at the fairest price, backed by the best possible service. Many years of experience serving a diverse range of industries - from mining, quarrying, mechanical and civil engineering to fishing and farming as well as film and television - has made Canning Conveyor a leading name throughout the world. So, obtaining the internationally recognised ISO 9001 standard was a logical step in providing the evidence to support the company's existing quality management systems. Working closely with IMSM, Canning Conveyor successfully achieved ISO 9001:2000 certification in October 2004. Now the company is looking forward to benefiting from the enhanced levels of customer satisfaction that the ISO quality management system delivers.

"ISO 9001 should not only add to the trust placed in our products by our customers but achieving the standard adds to the overall high standards we provide to all our customers through our products and services. That includes our current group purchasing contracts that we have with companies such as Tarmac and RMC."

Company Managing Director Andrew Canning went on to explain how the business found the ISO certification process: "Having a certified system in place has certainly improved our confidence in our internal quality and continual improvement systems. With the help of our IMSM Assessor, Geoff Read, implementing the system was accomplished with relative ease and thanks goes to all our dedicated Canning staff involved in the development and implementation process."
