Wholesale Quality
First established as a family-run fruiterers and greengrocers business
in 1919, Munneries was taken over by John and Julie Barker in 1996.
Today, the firm employs a staff of 16 people including Produce Buyers
who collectively have over 37 years' experience. As well as having
access to local growers of salad produce, potatoes and soft fruit,
this thriving company buys from the marketplace several times a
week to ensure the freshest produce available. They also have several
deliveries per week, which they buy direct from the markets of Paris
and Holland.
From
their large retail outlet in East Wittering, West Sussex, Munneries'
wholesale base is served by a fleet of vehicles which deliver a
comprehensive range of high quality fresh vegetables, fruit and
salads to hotels, restaurants, public houses, caterers, colleges,
schools, golf courses and nursing homes within a 40-mile radius
of Chichester.
With its emphasis on quality at all times, the company took steps
to nurture continued growth by becoming ISO 9001 certified. As Julie
Barker explains, "Initially a client we supply required us
to be ISO certified and we strongly felt that having clearly set
procedures in place would strengthen our position in the marketplace.
We achieved certification in November 2004, the whole process taking
just over 6 months from start to finish.
"Our IMSM Assessor, David Mott, was helpful and informative,
enabling us to focus clearly on the way in which we organize ourselves.
We now have an efficient documentation process, which can be easily
added to as we develop our business in the future.
"Clear benefits have been apparent in the way in which our
operation runs; from quality control and customer service through
to staff training, all significantly improve the parameters within
which our business operates. Additionally it is reassuring for potential
new customers to see we have a professionally recognized quality
standard."
