Building maintenance services company Ansoroy is unusual in achieving thirty years of success with no selling and no advertising. As Director Alan Coupar explains: “We do this with a team of 14 operatives and we win new customers through word of mouth recommendations. We’re also a preferred supplier for a major bank. Our work’s mainly within the London area with some requests from customers who’ve moved away.” Ansoroy takes care of the outside of high rise buildings and provides the equipment to maintain the buildings. Based in South London’s Herne Hill, services include roof repairs, window maintenance, brickwork, safety eyebolt inspection as well as maintenance systems such as cradles.
Safety is an absolute priority when working on high rises and, with IMSM’s support, Ansoroy first gained ISO9001 and then more recently achieved BS OHSAS 18001, showing their commitment to Health and Safety. “If we’re willing to let the auditors come in here and look, then it stands out that we’re checked as doing it properly. ISO reassures customers. It’s important to keep up to speed with the legislation as this helps prevent us losing sales.” In addition, the audit may throw up one small issue that goes beyond profit and loss and may turn out to be a potential lifesaver.
Alan feels that IMSM has provided a personal service. “IMSM understands how your business runs and doesn’t try to change the company. They work with you – the way you work.” For example, IMSM produces Health and Safety forms but Ansoroy’s were already more complex. IMSM were flexible enough to use the Ansoroy forms as the compliance for the audit.
Out of three companies, Ansoroy chose IMSM because they felt most comfortable with them. “It wasn’t the money. I just didn’t want someone who would come in and dictate.” For the future, they are looking next to the Environment certification ISO 14001. Since 1977 Ansoroy has continued to deliver a service that keeps their customers coming back. They created that success for themselves but ISO certification has helped to underpin it.
