Founded in 1972, Security Molding, Inc. is a family owned and operated company with 40 years’ experience in plastic injection molding. Employing 16 staff at its base in Addison, Illinois, the company provides custom injection molding for a broad spectrum of industries in the US, with proficiency in taking a current metal part and making it plastic, saving customers a lot of money and time.
Chosen because they offered value for money, IMSM guided Security Molding through the ISO 9001 implementation process. Not only was it was a customer requirement and a necessary tool for conducting future business, but also quality assurance is the company’s number one priority.
Jeannie Rick, Project Manager, said that they anticipate improvements due to the measurable objective section, which they had not done prior to implementing ISO 9001. “We also foresee a continued effort on improving our efficiencies, which are now a lot easier to spot because of the required documentation,” she added.
In terms of credibility in the marketplace, Jeannie continued, “It improves customer perception of course, but the employee perception was one I hadn't figured on. However, when we sent out surveys to our customers and posted the results for all the employees to see, I have never seen a more proud group of people.”
Jeannie expressed her initial concerns about the cost and the amount of time it would require to prepare for the audit, but explained how IMSM overcame these concerns and worked with them to help achieve their aims .
“Explaining our option to obtain a grant helped immensely. We invested a great deal of time, but the benefits have paid off ten-fold. There are numerous areas where ISO and IMSM helped us and most of those took place even before we were certified. After IMSM consultant Scott Mersch explained what ISO was and the requirements behind it, we changed, added, tweaked, etc. many of our procedures so we would have a seamless transition from pre-ISO to ISO certified. Because of these changes, we have become so much more efficient, which has played a big part in our profits as well as almost completely eliminating our overtime.”
In praise of IMSM, Jeannie said, “If anyone wanted a referral, I would not hesitate to mention Scott Mersch and Ian Farquharson, both of whom are extremely knowledgeable, but also bring a sense of light heartedness to the program.”
